Join us at one of our workdays across Southwest Missouri. No Sewing experience needed. There is a way for everyone to participate. All skill levels welcome - we will teach you!
Each of our three chapters holds regular sewing and workdays where volunteers come together to cut fabric, sew dresses, and prepare for missionaries. Whether you are an experienced seamstress or have never touched a sewing machine, there is a place for you.
"Cutters": Using shears or rotary cutters to turn bolts of fabric into dress pieces.
"Designers/Kitters": Lay out pattern pieces and matching fabric prints for the dresses, skirts or shorts. Adding other needed supplies, creating a kit for the seamstress to sew.
"Harvesters": Using scissors to cut men's dress shirts apart, preparing them to become dress pieces.
"Finishers": Threading elastic, inserting ribbons, or checking for loose threads.
“Inspector”: Checking all completed dresses, skirts and shorts for lose threads, pocket placement & label attached. They also ensure all seams are sewn with lasting quality.
The "Logistics Crew": Folding finished clothing, stuffing pockets and prepping suitcases for the missionaries.
Check the calendar below or contact your local chapter leader for the latest schedule. We typically meet monthly, but additional workdays may be scheduled during busy seasons.
We have you covered with donuts, coffee & supplies, including scissors, of course you are welcome to bring your favorite pair with you.
NOTE: If attending in Springfield, bring a sack lunch.
